Over 100 Americans among 171 barred from Philippines for criminal past

The Bureau of Immigration in the Philippines has taken a firm stand against individuals with criminal backgrounds entering the country. In a recent announcement on Facebook, the Bureau disclosed that 171 foreigners were barred from entry in 2023. These individuals had histories of convictions or involvement in sex offenses.

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco emphasized the necessity of this measure, citing a provision in the immigration act. This provision prohibits the entry of aliens with convictions or charges related to crimes involving moral turpitude. Tansingco highlighted the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens, particularly women and children, from potential harm posed by these individuals.

Tansingco reassured the public that the barred individuals were already on the blacklist of undesirable foreigners. This status means they will not be able to enter the country in the future, even if they attempt to do so.

The majority of those barred were Americans, numbering 129. They were followed by 15 Britons, 4 Australians, 4 Irishmen, 2 Germans, and 2 Chinese.
