Outcry as man who left 75-year-old Filipino American with permanent injuries walks free in months

The National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) has launched a nationwide call for “accountability, safety and justice” after the man who brutally assaulted a 75-year-old Filipino American in Las Vegas received only 90 days in jail.

NaFFAA expressed “deep concern and disappointment” over the sentence handed to Christian Lentz, who in May 2023 attacked Amadeo Quindara in his own garage, leaving him with deep cuts, brain bleeding, memory loss, and permanent injuries.

Clark County District Court Judge Jennifer Schwartz sentenced Lentz to 90 days in jail, five years’ probation, and $7,000 in restitution. For NaFFAA, this was far from enough.

“This sentence does not reflect the gravity of what Mr. Quindara endured,” said NaFFAA National President Ryan Namata. “This was more than a personal attack—it was an affront to the dignity of our elders and our community.”

Security footage reportedly captured Lentz using racial slurs, threatening Quindara’s life, and making derogatory remarks about his ethnicity. Quindara’s son, Phillip, insists the assault was a hate crime, saying, “Christian Lentz chose to target my father because he is Filipino American.”

NaFFAA leaders, including National Chair Mariela Fletcher, pledged to turn outrage into action, vowing to fight for stronger hate crime enforcement and better victim protection. “We honor Mr. Quindara’s strength and his family’s courage,” Fletcher said, stressing that hate “must be met with collective resolve, not silence.”

Through its Anti-Hate Crimes Task Force, NaFFAA continues to push for comprehensive victim support, tougher hate crime laws, and public education to dismantle racial prejudice.
