Online-only voting sees smooth first day in UAE with higher participation rate

The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai officially launched the 2025 Philippine National and Local Elections overseas voting on April 13, with Consul General Marford M. Angeles confirming that the majority of voters cast their ballots from home via the online voting portal.

“Only a handful of overseas voters, which includes two senior citizens, came to the Consulate today to seek assistance in online voting while majority of the voters voted online in the comfort of their homes,” Angeles shared to the media. “Compared to our previous elections, we can say we had a good turnout as more people were able to vote compared to if they came to the Consulate in person and queued under this hot weather.”

The online voting period for overseas Filipinos runs from April 13 until May 12, 2025, 3:00 PM (UAE time). The UAE is one of the 77 Philippine foreign posts authorized to conduct online voting only, with no manual or in-person voting being held at the Consulate.

So far, about 5% of the 123,891 registered voters in Dubai and the Northern Emirates have successfully pre-enrolled in the system—a requirement to vote online. “We are hoping that we get a higher turnout in the coming days, leading to the enrollment deadline of May 7, as only those pre-enrolled can cast their votes until May 12,” Angeles added.

“We ask everyone to spread the word so we can continue the upward trend of voter turnout for the next 29 days,” Angeles appealed. “Each vote is a step closer towards realizing what we envision our country’s future should be.”
