Oman police take action after video allegedly disrespects national money

Legal proceedings have been initiated against an Asian national woman after authorities determined that a social media post she shared may have violated laws safeguarding the Omani currency, according to the Royal Oman Police.

Investigators from the General Directorate of Investigations and Criminal Research confirmed that the case centers on a video allegedly depicting the improper use of Omani banknotes. The clip, which circulated online, drew official attention after being flagged for content considered disrespectful to the national currency.

A screen capture released by police shows the video accompanied by the caption, “POV: How my family thinks I make money.” Officials did not disclose further details about the individual or specify when the video was posted.

Authorities said the incident is being examined under regulations that prohibit the public disparagement or misuse of Omani currency, which is treated as a protected national symbol.

Police officials reiterated that online platforms are subject to monitoring and that content viewed as offensive to national symbols may lead to legal consequences.
