Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a major tender for the master-planning and design of three new domestic airports as part of its efforts to strengthen the country’s tourism sector. The new airports are set to be developed in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, Masirah Island, and Suhar, according to a report from Oman Observer.
International consultancy firms are expected to participate in the tender, with the winning bidder responsible for site selection studies, masterplan development, airport design, and construction supervision.
This move aligns with earlier statements from CAA Chairman Naif bin Ali al Abri, who announced plans for six new airports over the next five years to enhance tourism, improve logistics, and attract investment.
In addition to airport expansion, the CAA is progressing with plans to license a second low-cost carrier to complement SalamAir, aimed at improving domestic air travel. Consultancy firms have until October 7, 2024, to submit their bids.
