Sweden’s Mondo Duplantis set a new pole vault world record by clearing 6.26 meters on his second attempt at the Silesia Diamond League meeting on Sunday. This marks the tenth time Duplantis has broken the world record, surpassing the 6.25 meters he achieved earlier this month while defending his Olympic gold medal in Paris.
The 24-year-old has consistently pushed the limits this year, breaking his own record three times. After thrilling the Stade de France crowd with a 6.25-meter jump at the Paris Olympics, Duplantis proved he wasn’t finished.
At the Silesia Stadium in Chorzow, Poland, Duplantis initially struggled with his first attempt at 6.26 meters but succeeded on his second, sparking celebration. Olympic silver medallist Sam Kendricks of the United States and Paris bronze-medal winner Emmanouil Karalis of Greece both cleared six meters, securing second and third places, respectively.
Earlier in the event, Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen also broke a long-standing world record in the 3,000 meters, clocking in at 7 minutes 17.55 seconds, beating the previous record set in 1996.
