The Global Filipino Magazine launches a targeted survey to gauge the opinions of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Middle East regarding the recent impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte. After numerous requests from our readership, especially the 80% of followers based in the region who actively engage with us on Facebook, the magazine has decided to conduct this specialized poll.
The impeachment case against Vice President Duterte has dominated headlines, stirring significant debate among Filipinos globally. Duterte faces allegations ranging from the misuse of confidential funds amounting to ₱612.5 million, to threats allegedly made against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and other government officials. Additionally, accusations linking Duterte to extrajudicial killings reminiscent of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s controversial war on drugs have further intensified the situation.
A recent WR Numero survey found nearly half of Filipino adults—about 47%—oppose the impeachment, while 33% support it, and 20% remain undecided. Opposition to Duterte’s impeachment is strongest in Mindanao, her political stronghold, whereas Metro Manila residents showed the highest support for impeachment proceedings. The poll also revealed a general public preference for President Marcos Jr. to maintain neutrality on the issue. However, some lawmakers have cast doubt on this survey’s accuracy, referencing alternative polls that suggest stronger public support for impeachment.
Given the importance of the OFW community in the Middle East and their substantial influence in shaping political narratives back home, The Global Filipino Magazine’s survey aims to provide a clearer picture of how this significant demographic perceives the unfolding political drama. Our poll will ask OFWs about their awareness of the impeachment case, their stance on the allegations, the perceived political motives behind the impeachment, and its potential impact on their lives abroad.
