OFW’s mother discharged from hospital after NAIA car-ramming tragedy

The mother of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Danmark Masongsong, who survived the tragic car-ramming incident at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 that claimed the life of his four-year-old daughter, has been discharged from the hospital and is now back home in Batangas.

According to April Casabuena, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Calabarzon regional director, Masongsong’s mother was released from the hospital on Wednesday. Meanwhile, his wife, Cynthia, who underwent surgery at a Taguig City hospital, is still recovering.

“Hopefully, Ms. Cynthia will be discharged this week. We are just waiting for the doctor’s clearance,” Casabuena said.

The tragic incident occurred as Masongsong’s family gathered at NAIA Terminal 1 to bid him farewell before his flight to Europe, where he works as an assembly line operator.

In response to the tragedy, the DMW has extended comprehensive support to Masongsong’s family, including funeral, financial, legal, and psychosocial assistance. DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac also visited the wake of the young victim on May 5 to personally convey President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s condolences.

The DMW has been coordinating with Masongsong’s employer abroad through the Migrant Workers Office in Prague to ensure continued support for the family.
