Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Taiwan will soon have the convenience of renewing their driver’s licenses online, according to an announcement from the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
The LTO, in partnership with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), is set to launch the pilot implementation of this service for approximately 400 OFWs in Taichung and Kaohsiung on September 21 and 22.
“Our OFWs no longer need to wait until they return to the Philippines to renew their licenses because they can now accomplish it near where they are working and staying in Taiwan,” said LTO Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II.
This digital process aims to test the system’s efficiency and identify any issues based on feedback from OFW users. If successful, the LTO plans to extend this service to OFWs in the Middle East, the United States, and Europe.
Interested OFWs must have a driver’s license set to expire within 60 days or up to two years, an active LTMS portal account, an online Comprehensive Driver’s Education certification, and a medical certificate from an LTO-accredited facility.
The entire renewal process could be completed in as little as one hour, depending on the office hours of the LTO, with the license card delivered to the OFW’s address in Taiwan within 3-5 days.
