The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is reminding Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to renew their membership to ensure continued access to essential benefits and services.
In a recent social media announcement, OWWA called on OFWs to visit any of its regional or overseas offices to renew their membership, with a renewal fee of PHP 1,401.75.
“Sa mundong puno ng pagbabago, isang bagay lang ang sigurado: ang proteksyon ng pagiging isang Active OWWA Member! Kaya naman kung hindi mo pa na-renew, this is your sign to do it now, Kabayan,” OWWA stated in its post.
Determining when to renew your OWWA membership
OWWA memberships typically have a specific validity period. To determine if your membership needs renewal, you can:
Check your membership card: Your OWWA membership card will usually indicate the expiration date.
Contact OWWA: You can reach out to OWWA through their official channels, such as their website, hotline, or offices, to inquire about your membership status and renewal requirements.
Renewal process
The renewal process usually involves the following steps:
Gather required documents: Prepare the necessary documents, such as your passport, employment contract, and proof of remittance.
Visit an OWWA office or authorized agent: Locate an OWWA office or authorized agent in your area.
Submit renewal application: Fill out the required application form and submit it with the necessary documents.
Pay renewal fee: Pay the renewal fee, which may vary depending on the membership type and duration.
Receive renewed membership card: Once your renewal is processed, you will receive a renewed OWWA membership card.
Why renewing matters
Active membership with OWWA provides OFWs with various benefits, including social protection, education and training opportunities, and repatriation and reintegration programs. Members also receive financial assistance for disability, medical emergencies, death, and legal support, along with access to scholarship and skills development programs for themselves and their dependents.
OWWA further offers assistance with repatriation and reintegration into the local workforce upon an OFW’s return to the Philippines, highlighting the importance of keeping an active membership for comprehensive support.
