Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families can now benefit from the newly launched Alagang OWWA Botika, a facility that provides up to ₱20,000 worth of free medicines every year under the Alagang OWWA: Yakap at Gamot program.
The initiative is a collaboration between OWWA, PhilHealth, and VidaCure, with the facility accredited as a PhilHealth GAMOT provider. It aims to ease the medical expenses of migrant households while ensuring consistent access to healthcare support.
In line with this effort, OWWA has also declared “Every Friday is YAKAP Day”, offering free consultations at the Care Center Clinic in the OWWA Central Office, Pasay City. Several OFWs have already availed of these services, receiving medical check-ups from YAKAP-accredited doctors. Prescriptions issued during these consultations can then be used to claim free medicines at the Alagang OWWA Botika from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Unlike regular weekdays, check-ups are strictly available only on Fridays, with medicines claimable throughout the week. Importantly, the free services cover not just active OWWA members but also retired OFWs, those who have returned home for good, and even non-active members, provided they have a valid PhilHealth number.
OWWA also announced that active members may apply for and claim their eCard on-site at the Central Office during these health service days. A livestream has been scheduled to officially mark the opening of the Alagang OWWA Botika.
