OFWs and families to enjoy P20 rice under DMW-DA partnership

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has joined forces with the Department of Agriculture (DA) to ensure affordable rice is accessible to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families, fulfilling a key promise made by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Under this partnership, the Kadiwa ng Pangulo program will bring PHP20 rice to the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City, providing OFWs and their loved ones with direct access to quality rice at a low cost. The Kadiwa program, led by the DA, directly connects consumers with local farmers, cutting out middlemen and ensuring that farmers receive fair compensation for their produce.

“Our President Marcos Jr. truly values our OFWs, our modern-day heroes in our Bagong Pilipinas,” emphasized Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac in a PNA report. He highlighted the government’s commitment to making essential goods affordable for Filipino families, including those with loved ones working abroad.

Cacdac also urged consumers to purchase responsibly and adhere to distribution guidelines to ensure that the low-cost rice reaches as many families as possible.

Beyond making affordable rice available, the DMW is also collaborating with the DA to support OFWs and their families interested in agribusiness. This initiative is part of the national reintegration program, which offers technical assistance and guidance to aspiring OFW “agri-preneurs.”

“The agricultural sector is a worthwhile business and investment opportunity for our dear OFWs. The DMW is partnering with the DA to support them as we promote agribusiness as a sustainable and viable program for the reintegration of OFWs,” Cacdac said.
