Don Johnson Dela Chica, a graduate of the Philippine Law School, surprised his mother, an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), with the news of his success in the 2023 Bar Examinations.
The emotional revelation occurred during a video call on Tuesday, where Dela Chica, overwhelmed with joy, informed his mother of his achievement. “Tapos na po, natapos natin, Mama. May anak ka nang abogado,” he declared, indicating the end of a challenging journey and his new status as a lawyer.
Dela Chica’s family, all OFWs, were unaware of his decision to take the Bar exam. His journey was not without obstacles; he was unable to sit for the examinations in 2021 as initially planned. This delay, however, did not deter him from pursuing his dream. “Becoming a lawyer is one of my greatest dreams. Even though it was delayed, I know that this is part of the Lord’s plans,” Dela Chica expressed.
His experiences have inspired him to support other law students facing similar challenges. Dela Chica aims to use his story to motivate and assist students in the legal field, either academically or through a law firm. “My wish is to be given a platform to voice out the concerns of all these students,” he said, hoping to inspire those who may lack the courage to pursue their dreams.
Dela Chica’s achievement is significant as he is among the 3,812 successful candidates out of 10,387 examinees in the 2023 Bar examinations.
