OFW shares decade-long contribution and faith in Malaysia

Carmencita Somera Noga, affectionately known as “Menchie” by friends, embodies the strength and resilience that are the hallmarks of every Global Filipino.

Born on October 23, 1967, in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines, Menchie’s story is one of overcoming trials, forging a path for her family, and serving her community with unyielding faith.

Menchie has been a beacon of diligence and hard work for a decade in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“I have seven children that need to go to school and feed. I want them to feel that we can overcome all the trials in our life,” she shares with The Global Filipino Magazine, revealing the driving force behind her decision to work abroad.

After enduring challenges in Taiwan, including an unkind employer, Menchie found solace and support in Malaysia, thanks to a good Samaritan who helped her settle.

Despite being miles away from her family, Menchie’s perseverance paid off.

“After 10 years of working in Malaysia, all these seven children became Children of God. Five of them are already married and have their own families,” she proudly mentions.

More than just providing financial support, Menchie has instilled in her children values of faith, respect, and resilience, ensuring they lead stable lives, with jobs and homes of their own.

Working overseas, Menchie found strength in camaraderie, saying, “I like having so many friends that keep me going.”

With a background in various jobs, from Hizon Laboratory to the garment industry in the Philippines, Menchie brings a wealth of experience and a hearty spirit of enjoyment to her work, embodying the passion she feels in her chosen field.

Menchie’s service as a Secretary in the Locale of Bangsar – Malaysia for the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) Church has been a cornerstone of her journey.

“My duties and responsibilities to my brother and sister at the Church make me stronger every day,” she says.

The Church has not only been a source of spiritual strength but also a platform for her to help fellow Filipinos facing mistreatment, guiding them towards better opportunities.

Enduring the struggles of distance and longing for family, Menchie remains steadfast, drawing inspiration from her children’s growth and active participation in INC.

“It’s hard to endure that you miss your family so much. They are getting older and having their own families without me by their side. But I am reassured, because even though I am far from their side, they are also active members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo,” Menchie reflects.

As Menchie looks forward to the future, she envisions a time of bonding and reflection with her family.

“I plan to bring my children and grandchildren to Malaysia to go sightseeing before I go home for good so we can have bonding here and I show them all where I work and what I’m doing every day,” she shares, her plans brimming with love and gratitude.

With unwavering faith guiding her every step, Menchie believes in the providence and mercy of a higher power.

“With the help and mercy of Our Father, he always guided me to take the path that I have now. God will help and provide for what I need and that’s the strength I have,” she declares, her journey reflecting the resilience, faith, and warmth that define the Global Filipino.
