OFW reunites with family in Pangasinan after enduring maltreatment in Kuwait

A 30-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) has finally reunited with her family in Mangaldan, Pangasinan after experiencing alleged maltreatment during her nearly two-year stint as a cleaner in Kuwait.

According to a GMA Regiinal TV report, the OFW, identified as Angela, shared that her employment began positively but took a distressing turn in 2024. According to her, she faced verbal abuse frequently and was tasked with duties beyond her job description. Despite the hardships, Angela chose to persevere for her family’s sake.

However, in October 2024, she was unexpectedly dismissed without cause and did not receive her full salary.

“Ang purpose nila sa pagpunta doon ay magtrabaho at kumita ng pera, pero ganu’n ang nangyari sa kanya,” noted Ernie Cuison, Mangaldan Migrant Desk Officer, shedding light on the challenges faced by OFWs.

Angela reached out to the Filipino community in Kuwait for support, while her family sought assistance from the local government in Mangaldan. The local government coordinated with relevant agencies to ensure her safe return. Additionally, the LGU has taken steps to provide her with recovery support.

“’Yun ang talagang tinutukan natin,” Cuison added, emphasizing the importance of aiding Angela’s transition back home.
