An overseas Filipino worker (OFW), identified only as “Rose,” recently sought help after allegedly being abused twice by the son of her employer in Saudi Arabia. Despite reporting the initial incident to her agency, no immediate action was taken.
According to a report by JP Soriano on GMA News 24 Oras, the first incident occurred in May while Rose’s employers were on a business trip. Rose recalled the traumatic experience, saying, “Inubos niya yung lakas ko, kasi lumaban ako. Lumaban ako sa kanya… Tapos ang mali ko po dun, one month ko po kasing nilihim kasi tinakot ako ng anak niya,” she said tearfully. The suspect threatened her life and warned of imprisonment if she reported the incident.
When Rose sought help from her agency in the Philippines, she was told to wait for two to three months. Desperate, she informed her employers, but instead of assisting her, they confiscated her passport and iqama.
The situation escalated when the abuse was repeated in July, prompting Rose to reach out to GMA Integrated News for immediate help. “Hindi ko na po kaya kasi ang dami ko na pong naiisip na nandito ako, sana po ma-rescue na po ako dito,” she pleaded.
GMA Integrated News promptly coordinated with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), leading to Rose’s rescue by Saudi authorities and her safe transfer to a police station. “Maraming salamat po sa tulong niyo sir, kasi nakuha na po ako dun sa bahay ng employer ko… alam ko pong safe na po ako dito,” Rose expressed in relief.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac assured that justice would be pursued for Rose’s case, committing to support her throughout the legal process.
