OFW Lounge at NAIA Terminal 1 marks milestone with 500,000th OFW served

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) celebrated the first anniversary of the OFW Lounge at NAIA Terminal 1 by recognizing its 500,000th beneficiary on January 15, 2025.

Jose Diva Jr., a Malaysia-based manager with 23 years of experience, was honored as the milestone visitor. He received a certificate of appreciation and a token for being the 500,000th OFW served. “It’s heartwarming to have a dedicated space for OFWs at the airport. It’s a big deal for us because it makes us feel valued,” said Diva, who travels home every two years to visit his family in Roxas City.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac highlighted the lounge as part of the government’s commitment to acknowledging the sacrifices of OFWs. “This initiative was launched to show our deep appreciation for OFWs and their families. As directed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., we want them to feel comfortable before embarking on their journey,” Cacdac said.

The OFW Lounge provides exclusive services such as comfortable seating, free meals, Wi-Fi, and charging ports. Secretary Cacdac also announced plans to expand support for OFWs, including mental health services through OWWA and the OFW Hospital.

OWWA Administrator Arnel Ignacio shared that the lounge concept emerged from a discussion with Secretary Cacdac. “We wanted to provide OFWs with facilities that make them feel special, akin to business-class services,” Ignacio said.
