A 60-year-old overseas Filipino worker from Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, has finally returned home to reunite with his family and undergo urgent medical treatment after nearly four decades of working abroad.
Luciano Meneses Garcia, who spent 39 years in the Kingdom as a car air-conditioning installer, suffered an accident at work that led to his hospitalization. Tests revealed he was suffering from renal disease hyperkalemia, primary hypertension, and acute kidney failure.
His employer of nine years shouldered his hospital expenses and airfare, a gesture hailed as a strong act of compassion and responsibility. Garcia was accompanied by a nurse on his Gulf Air flight back to the Philippines on August 20, 2025.
Upon arrival, he was welcomed by his family and assisted by teams from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). DMW Region III arranged his immediate transfer to the OFW Hospital in San Fernando, Pampanga, where he will receive the care he urgently needs.
Officials stressed that Garcia’s safe return reflects the DMW’s commitment to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize distressed OFWs, ensuring that those facing illness or hardship are provided with timely assistance, dignity, and compassion.
