OFW in Pampanga shot while drinking with friends, now recovering in hospital

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was injured after being shot by unidentified assailants in Barangay Telapayong, Arayat, Pampanga, on Wednesday.

According to a report to PRO3 director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Penones Jr., the Pampanga police identified the victim only as “Bernie,” a 49-year-old resident of the barangay. Journal News Online reported that the attack happened while the victim was drinking with companions by the roadside.

Initial investigation showed that two men riding a red Honda Click motorcycle approached the group. Both wore helmets, and the back rider got off the motorcycle before firing at Bernie, hitting his right thigh and left arm. Despite his wounds, the victim reportedly fought back before the suspects fled toward Barangay San Antonio.

Responding police recovered two empty shells from a .45 caliber pistol and an airsoft magazine at the scene. Bernie was rushed to Dr. Andres Luciano District Hospital in Magalang for treatment.

Authorities are conducting follow-up operations to determine the identities and motive of the gunmen.
