A Filipina overseas worker based in Jordan was found murdered at her place of employment last week, as reported by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
The victim, a household service worker, was discovered in the basement of the building in which she worked in Amman. The primary suspect in the case is the teenage son of the building’s caretaker, who has since admitted to the crime and is now in the custody of local authorities.
The DMW revealed, “An autopsy conducted showed the cause of death as strangulation.”
The worker was initially reported missing on October 12 by her family to the Migrant Workers Office in Amman, Jordan (MWO-Amman). Following their report, the MWO-Amman filed a formal missing persons report, leading to the subsequent discovery of her body.
Plans are in place for the repatriation of her remains to the Philippines on the afternoon of October 21, 2023.
The Philippine government, through the DMW, has documented the case and assured its commitment to supporting the court proceedings until a final judgment is rendered. Additionally, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration will oversee the processing of benefits for the deceased worker’s family.
