The Overseas Filipino Workers Hospital (OFWH) has expanded its medical services in 2024, now offering treatment for serious illnesses such as cancer and chronic kidney disease. The facility, which has already provided medical assistance to over 86,000 OFWs and their dependents this year, continues to strengthen its healthcare programs for migrant workers.
In a Manila Standard report, Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte highlighted this development, emphasizing the hospital’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access for OFWs and their families. As a key author of a bill aimed at improving OFWH’s capacity, he urged the Senate to pass a counterpart measure to House Bill No. 8325, which would allow the Department of Health (DOH) to recruit both local and foreign medical specialists for the hospital.
The bill, which the House approved in May 2023, seeks to bring in experts such as cardiologists, pulmonologists, and nephrologists to provide specialized treatment at the San Fernando, Pampanga-based facility. It also permits the OFWH to invite foreign specialists in fields lacking in the country and to send its personnel for advanced training and conferences with the approval of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
Additionally, the OFWH has introduced packages for Pre-Employment Medical Examinations for aspiring OFWs and strengthened its Medical Assistance and Medical Repatriation Program for those returning home due to health concerns.
