OFW group asks Customs to safeguard balikbayan boxes this Christmas

The OFW Party List has appealed to the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to carefully monitor incoming balikbayan boxes during the holiday rush to ensure these reach their intended families without delay or loss.

Former party-list representative Marissa “Del Mar” P. Magsino emphasized that many overseas workers save for months to send these packages home, making them more than just parcels. “Kaawa-awa ang mga OFWs na nagpapadala ng mga ito para sa kanilang pamilya at mahal sa buhay,” she said, describing the boxes as symbols of sacrifice and hard work.

Magsino recalled that even during the 19th Congress, the OFW Party List consistently pushed for stronger safeguards after repeated complaints of missing and mishandled shipments. She stressed that the group continues to prioritize this advocacy today, underscoring the need for “precautionary” measures to protect the packages.

Alongside her call to the BOC, Magsino also took part in an OB-Gyne outreach medical mission aimed at supporting underprivileged Filipinos in need of healthcare services.
