Authorities took into custody a recently arrived overseas Filipino worker at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 in Pasay City on Wednesday night after police served an outstanding warrant of arrest issued earlier this year.
The traveler, a 44-year-old worker who had just returned from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was informed of his rights by police officers from the Aviation Security Group together with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group before being turned over to investigators.
Court records show that the Pangasinan Regional Trial Court released the warrant on March 13, 2025 in connection with an alleged violation of Republic Act 9262, known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act.
Police officials said coordination with the Bureau of Immigration continues in order to identify departing or arriving individuals who have pending court cases and to act on such warrants at the country’s ports of entry.
The OFW, now under the custody of the CIDG Manila District Field Unit, may be allowed temporary liberty once he posts the bail amount set by the court at P72,000.
