An overseas Filipino worker who had been missing for four days in Saudi Arabia was confirmed dead following a reported hit-and-run incident, according to a report by GMA News Online.
The victim, Juljirri Aggong, was found lifeless after being struck by a vehicle on King Salman Eastbound Road in Riyadh last June 11. The incident happened at a non-designated pedestrian crossing around 12:31 p.m., said Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan.
“Na-hit-and-run siya ng kotse. And that caused fatal injuries,” Caunan said in an interview with GMA’s Saksi.
Authorities have identified the car involved, including its license plate and the driver. Caunan also noted that OWWA is working to secure CCTV footage of the incident and has tapped a legal representative in Riyadh to assist in the case.
Aggong’s cousin, Mhaie Aggong, made an emotional plea: “Hustisya lang po. ‘Yan lang po yung panawagan namin. Hindi po ito pwedeng maging kwento lang na walang hustisya.” He warned that if the case is left unresolved, more OFWs could be at risk.
Originally from Jolo, Sulu, Juljirri was the eldest sibling in his family and had only been working in Riyadh for six months as an office and facility cleaner. His remains will be laid to rest in Riyadh, following Islamic tradition.
OWWA has vowed to pursue the case to ensure accountability and justice for Aggong and his grieving family.
