A 43-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) tragically drowned while swimming at a beach resort in Calatagan on Sunday afternoon.
According to an Inquirer.net report, authorities identified the victim as Diosdado Catanay, a resident of Nasugbu, Batangas. According to an initial police report, Catanay was swimming with friends in Barangay Bagong Silang around 2:30 p.m. when strong waves pulled them into deeper waters. While his companions managed to return to shore, Catanay was unable to escape the current.
He was retrieved from the water and rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police have classified the case as a drowning incident and are conducting further investigations.
