OFW children urged to apply for OWWA scholarships, offering up to P60,000 per year

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has called on children and dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to start preparing their documents for the forthcoming online application for its scholarship programs.

In an announcement made on Facebook on Wednesday, OWWA stated that the application period for the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) and the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP) will run from July 26 to August 16, 2024.

The EDSP is open to OFW children and dependents who are from 2nd to 5th-year college students. This scholarship grants up to PHP60,000 per school year to qualified dependents or siblings of single active OWWA members. Eligible candidates include incoming Senior High School students or Grade 12 students, or incoming college freshmen not older than 21 years, with a general weighted average (GWA) of 80 percent or higher, without failing grades. For college students from 2nd to 5th year, applicants must be under 30 years old with a GWA of not lower than a B letter grade or 85 percent equivalence in all subjects from the previous academic year.

The ODSP offers financial assistance of PHP20,000 per school year to qualified dependents of OFWs earning a monthly salary of no more than USD600 (PHP34,000). This program is available for those enrolling in, currently enrolled in, or previously enrolled in any four- or five-year baccalaureate course or associate course at any college or university.

Prospective applicants can visit any OWWA Regional Office for more information on the required documents and to submit their applications.
