A viral video showing an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) being attacked inside a mall in Singapore has triggered widespread outrage online, with many Filipinos calling for accountability and justice.
The footage, featured in a report by JP Soriano on “24 Oras” aired Tuesday, shows the woman calmly speaking with a foreign man before the situation suddenly turns violent. Without any visible warning or provocation, the man kicks the OFW on her side, causing her to fall hard to the ground.
He then attempts to strike her again, this time targeting her head, but the victim manages to evade the blow and avoid further injury.
Following the incident, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed that the Philippine labor attaché in Singapore has already identified the OFW and has reached out to her to provide assistance.
DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac said the immediate focus is on the woman’s safety and access to medical support, while authorities work to determine what led to the attack.
“Our Migrant Workers Office labor attaché in Singapore is already in discussions,” Cacdac said. “We are determining the exact cause of the incident. Medical assistance is the most basic priority, and our lawyer is ready to help her file a complaint.”
The victim has already reported the incident to the labor attaché, although further details have yet to be released publicly.
“This is assault—physical assault. It’s a crime anywhere in the world, especially in Singapore,” Cacdac said. “We are looking into it and will file the necessary legal actions.”
The DMW also noted that more than 200,000 Filipinos are currently employed in Singapore, including both household service workers and a growing number of skilled professionals.
