A nurse was fatally shot in Caloocan City after he attempted to assist a motorcyclist who had been involved in an accident. The incident, which also claimed the life of another resident, occurred on Friday, according to James Agustin’s report on Unang Balita.
The nurse, identified as Mark John Blanco, was trying to help the suspect, a 54-year-old security officer, right his motorcycle when the tragedy unfolded. “Tumulong lang daw, sabi ng witness sa akin. Ini-imagine ko yung mga pangyayari, talagang napakasakit,” Blanco’s widow lamented, expressing her profound grief over the events that led to her husband’s death.
According to Police Major Segundino Bulan Jr., commander of Caloocan Police Sub-Station 9, the suspect, who had just come from a drinking spree, became infuriated when his motorcycle failed to start, prompting him to shoot Blanco. The nurse sustained fatal gunshot wounds to his head and arms, leaving behind five children.
“Naawa siya dahil nakita niya at tinulungan niya itong suspek na itayo ‘yung motor,” Bulan explained, highlighting the nurse’s compassion at the moment.
A second victim, a nearby resident who approached the scene, was also shot and killed by the suspect. The security officer was later apprehended by the police, and a multiple murder complaint has been filed against him. Ballistic tests confirmed that the bullets recovered at the crime scene matched those from the suspect’s gun.
While in custody, the suspect sought forgiveness but remained evasive when questioned directly about the shootings.
