Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recorded a 20% surge in Nol card top-up transactions through digital platforms in the first half of 2025, compared to the same period last year—highlighting a growing shift toward digital convenience among commuters.
The RTA attributed the increase to several key improvements, including more digital ticket machines, awareness campaigns promoting online options, and adjustments to top-up thresholds for machines and sales counters.
In contrast, the number of physical top-up transactions via ticket vending machines fell by 28%, while in-person transactions at ticket offices saw a 26% drop—driven by a 37% decline in cash payments and a 6% dip in digital usage at those locations.
The authority emphasized that this digital push has led to shorter queues, reduced operational costs related to cash management, and a significant 80% drop in machine malfunctions due to fewer cash-based transactions.
