GCash, the leading e-wallet operator in the Philippines, informed the National Privacy Commission (NPC) that no personal data breach occurred following reports of unauthorized transactions that resulted in lost funds for account holders. The company reassured the NPC that there was no data leak.
Despite GCash’s assurance, the NPC stated that an independent investigation would be conducted as part of its duty to uphold the Data Privacy Act. The probe aims to verify whether a data breach indeed took place.
The NPC encouraged affected GCash users to contact them via info@privacy.gov.ph to provide any pertinent details for the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, the commission advised those with transaction-related issues to address their queries directly to the relevant financial regulatory body.
