A tragic accident in Khor Fakkan on Sunday claimed the lives of nine construction workers and injured several others after a bus overturned due to brake failure, Sharjah Police confirmed in a Khaleej Times report. Emergency responders rescued 73 passengers from the site at Wadi Wishi Square, located at the entrance of Khor Fakkan city.
The Eastern Region Police Department’s director, Dr. Ali Al Hamoudi, stated that injuries ranged from severe to minor. Preliminary investigations suggest the driver lost control of the vehicle when its brakes failed.
The passengers, primarily Arab and Asian workers from a company in Ajman, had traveled to the city on their day off to visit their headquarters and shop for food, according to social worker Saleem of the Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre. The accident occurred as they were returning around 8 PM.
Social workers who visited the injured at Khor Fakkan Hospital noted that many survivors were still in shock and struggling to recall the events.
