Police General Nicolas Torre III officially assumed the top post in the Philippine National Police (PNP) after taking his oath before President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday, June 2, 2025, in Malacañang. He succeeded PGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, who retired from service the same day.
Torre, a veteran officer and former chief of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), is best known for overseeing the arrests of controversial figures such as Apollo Quiboloy and former President Rodrigo Duterte under international warrants.
His appointment marks a significant shift in the institution, as he becomes the first PNP Chief to come from the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), diverging from the traditional selection of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) alumni.
