Abdul Gafoor, an Indian expatriate and newly appointed taxi driver in Sharjah, won the Dh100,000 Mahzooz weekly prize last Saturday. Gafoor, who had been buying a Mahzooz ticket weekly despite not receiving a regular salary, was ecstatic to find his name as one of the winners on the app.
Having arrived in the UAE only seven months prior, Gafoor learned about the Mahzooz draw from his roommates and consistently spent Dh35 every week to participate. The winnings, he mentioned, would be used to settle some financial obligations. As of now, he hasn’t broken the news to his wife.
Interestingly, the other two winners of the Dh100,000 prize are also Indian nationals. Abu Dhabi resident, Pratik, 40, intends to invest a significant portion of his winnings in his children’s education and also plans to buy more Mahzooz tickets. On the other hand, Sathiya, a UAE resident for over twenty years, mentioned that the prize money would be allocated towards his 19-year-old child’s educational needs. Sathiya, a project manager at a private energy firm in Dubai, has been a Mahzooz participant since its inception.
