Authorities in Sharjah were alerted to an alarming discovery on Wednesday as a newborn boy, believed to be of African origin, was found abandoned in the women’s prayer room of a mosque in Al Majaz 1.
According to a police official speaking to Gulf News, the infant was stumbled upon by the mosque guard, who was en route to prayer when he heard the baby’s cries.
Promptly contacting the Sharjah Police operation room, the guard’s swift action led to the dispatch of a police patrol car and an ambulance to the scene. The baby was swiftly taken to Al Qasimi Hospital, where he currently resides in the ICU.
Sharjah Police have initiated an intensive investigation to locate the child’s mother and determine the circumstances surrounding the abandonment.
Meanwhile, authorities have assured that the newborn will receive comprehensive medical care, including vaccinations and a thorough examination, before being transferred to the Child Protection Committee.
