Dubai Police has announced that several roads will be closed starting from 4pm on December 31 in preparation for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, at a press conference, advised people to travel early to Downtown and other popular areas, suggesting the use of public transport and warning against carrying large bags to avoid delays in security checks.
The Executive Committee for Securing International and Local Events in Dubai has finalized preparations for a safe and secure celebration. Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), revealed a traffic plan to ease access to celebration venues. This includes closing Al Asayel Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Burj Khalifa Street, Lower deck Financial Center Street, Sukuk (DIFC) Street, Upper Financial Center Street, and Sheikh Zayed Road at specified times.
Additionally, the Burj Khalifa Dubai Metro station will shut at 5pm, while the Dubai Tram and Metro will operate extended hours to accommodate the revelers.
Preparations are underway across 32 locations in Dubai, including Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, and Festival City, with enhanced facilities like support tents, food vendors, and emergency services. The Event Preparation Committee, which began planning three months ago, includes over 55 partners like the RTA, Civil Defence, and Dubai Ambulance.
Maj Gen Al Ghaithi said in a Gulf News report that over 1,300 police patrols and more than 10,000 officers and volunteers will be deployed across the 32 venues to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration for all.
