New tourist road in Sharjah to reach Khor Fakkan’s highest peak

Sharjah’s Ruler, Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, has announced the development of a striking new mountainous tourist road leading to Khor Fakkan, calling it “a wonder never seen before.”

The project, revealed on July 17 during his live intervention on the Direct Line programme of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, will feature a scenic route that winds through rugged peaks and slopes. Starting at Al Ghuzair Tunnel, the road will climb to Khor Fakkan’s highest mountain peak, standing 1,100 metres above sea level.

Far from a typical highway, the route will be transformed into a tourist attraction lined with trees, plantations, water channels, and residential areas, offering a unique travel experience in the region’s cool winter climate. The road will also connect and serve the smaller villages scattered across the mountains.

In the same announcement, Sheikh Sultan assured residents of Kalba that additional projects are underway in Jabal Deem, including a rest stop, farms, and playgrounds. These developments are expected to open to the public by March 2026.
