Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully reduced travel time by up to 40% during peak hours with the opening of a new street near Kings’ School on Umm Suqeim Street. The newly constructed 500-metre road, featuring two lanes in each direction, connects directly to the school’s entrances and a nearby detour, easing traffic flow in the area.
This development is part of RTA’s Quick Traffic Improvement Plan 2024, aimed at enhancing Dubai’s road network, improving traffic flow, and increasing road capacity to support the city’s sustainable growth. The new street has significantly improved vehicle entry and exit for school traffic, thereby reducing congestion.
“These works are part of Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, spanning 4.6 km from Al Khail Road intersection to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road intersection,” said Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA. “The project enhances connectivity among four major traffic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. As a result, the street’s capacity will jump by 30%, accommodating up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.”
In addition to the new road, the RTA has also provided 200 temporary parking spaces to accommodate the needs of school staff and parents, helping to prevent random parking and further alleviate congestion. These measures are designed to enhance traffic safety standards and improve overall public satisfaction, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leading global city.
