Sharjah’s Ruler, Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, has approved the designs and location for a new ‘Sports City’ in the emirate. The city, which will include four sports complexes for team and individual sports, will be built on a site selected by the Ruler himself.
Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi, member of the Executive Council and Head of the Sharjah Department of Public Works, announced this development during a phone interview on the ‘Direct Line’ programme, broadcast on Sharjah Radio and Television.
Al Suwaidi revealed in a WAM report that Dr Sheikh Sultan personally designed the city, featuring a central square connected by four main roads. The city’s centerpiece, the ‘Sports City Stadium’, will be the first phase of the project. The stadium’s design is inspired by the natural landscape, resembling a bird soaring over sand dunes, and its color will change from silver in the morning to golden-red at night.
Designed to host local, regional, and global events, the stadium aims to be an architectural icon while blending with the natural environment. The project will move forward with detailed designs and construction to support athletes and sports in the emirate.
