A new government-backed facility dedicated to the needs of Filipino seafarers was formally introduced on Wednesday with the soft launch of the Seafarers’ Welfare Center at Monarch Parksuites in Aseana Business Park, Parañaque City.
The initiative was led by Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator PY Caunan together with Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, marking the rollout of a centralized space intended to support maritime workers and their families through integrated services.
Designed as a single-access welfare hub, the center houses multiple government counters aimed at streamlining transactions for seafarers. It also includes training and board rooms that can be used for learning sessions, consultations, and capacity-building activities.
Health-related support forms part of the facility’s core offerings through Alagang OWWA YAKAP at GAMOT, in partnership with VidaCure, which provides free medical consultations and medicines to eligible beneficiaries.
Beyond formal services, the center incorporates areas intended to promote rest and well-being. These include Migrants Brew, which serves as a lounge for informal conversations, a designated Pink Area created as a safe and inclusive space for women seafarers, and a recreation zone equipped with board games to support mental wellness.
The Seafarers’ Welfare Center is positioned as a dedicated environment where maritime workers can access assistance, take respite between engagements, and engage with support programs in one location.
