Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a series of traffic upgrades on Sheikh Zayed Road, significantly reducing travel time from five minutes to just two minutes in key areas.
The enhancements included widening the service road next to Financial Centre Metro Station in the Abu Dhabi-bound direction, increasing the number of lanes from three to four. This expansion has boosted road capacity by 25%, now accommodating 3,200 vehicles per hour, up from 2,400, easing congestion and eliminating bottlenecks.
In addition, the RTA extended the merging distance between Al Khail Road and Financial Centre Street in the Dubai-bound direction, cutting travel time from four minutes to three minutes.
Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, highlighted that these improvements are part of the authority’s broader efforts to enhance traffic flow, improve safety, and accommodate Dubai’s growing transport needs.
“These upgrades ensure a seamless and efficient driving experience for all road users while keeping pace with the city’s rapid development,” Al Khzaimy said.
Sheikh Zayed Road remains a critical transport artery in Dubai, linking major economic and commercial hubs, including Dubai International Financial Centre, Burj Khalifa, and Dubai Mall.
