In a significant development announced at the G20 summit in Delhi on Saturday, leaders revealed plans to establish a shipping and rail corridor connecting the UAE, India, Saudi Arabia, and further extending to Europe and the United States.
The Deputy US National Security Advisor, Jon Finer, spoke to the media highlighting that the creation of this corridor stands to “boost economic prosperity” among the involved nations.
The pathway is aimed at augmenting the transportation of energy resources and fostering digital communications.
The forthcoming initiative comes as part of US President Joe Biden’s broader strategy to pitch Washington as a partner and investor in the development projects of emerging countries, with a particular focus on the Indo-Pacific region.
The corridor arises at a pivotal juncture when the Biden administration is channeling efforts to foster a wider diplomatic deal in the Middle East, including encouraging Saudi Arabia to recognize Israel. Reports about the ongoing negotiations first emerged in Axios.
