New Green Bus route launched in Abu Dhabi to cut carbon emissions

Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) introduced its new Green Bus service today, marking a key milestone in the emirate’s efforts to transform its public transport into a green zone by 2030. According to a WAM report, the buses are powered by clean hydrogen and electric energy, as part of Abu Dhabi Mobility’s Green Bus Programme.

Operating on Route 65 between Marina Mall and Shams Boutik, the service is designed to reduce carbon emissions and promote eco-friendly public transport. The initiative is also aligned with Abu Dhabi’s commitment to the Paris Agreement and its net-zero emissions goal by 2050.

The Green Bus Programme, launched in November 2023, will run until June 2025, with ongoing assessments of bus performance, operator training, and the development of local expertise in hydrogen and electric technologies. Collaboration with international bus manufacturers and government bodies aims to provide sustainable transport options that suit the emirate’s environment.

This effort is expected to significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 100,000 metric tonnes annually, supporting Abu Dhabi’s broader environmental objectives.
