Dubai-based airline flydubai has announced stricter safety rules for passengers traveling with power banks, effective 1 October 2025. The move follows similar measures by Emirates and comes as UAE carriers step up regulations on lithium batteries to reduce inflight risks.
In its statement, the airline clarified that “passengers may carry one power bank per person in their hand baggage, provided it has a watt-hour (Wh) rating of 100 Wh or less, clearly marked on the device. Devices exceeding 100 Wh are strictly prohibited.”
Use of power banks during flights is not allowed, including charging electronic devices or recharging the power bank itself from onboard sockets. The devices must be kept only in hand baggage—either under the seat or in the seat pocket—and not in overhead compartments.
flydubai stressed that power banks must be switched off and protected from accidental activation or short circuits, ideally stored in their original packaging or a protective case. Checked baggage is strictly off-limits for power banks.
The carrier also reminded passengers that lithium battery guidelines apply to laptops, phones, e-cigarettes, rechargeable batteries, and digital cameras. Any such devices packed in checked luggage must be turned off and secured.
Travellers uncertain about whether their devices meet the requirements are advised to contact flydubai before their flight. Emirates, meanwhile, has urged passengers to fully charge devices before departure, noting that most aircraft already offer in-seat charging.
