New ‘Final Destination’ set for May 2025 release, promises fresh thrills

The much-anticipated sixth installment of the Final Destination franchise is set to hit theaters in the US on May 16, 2025. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, with a script by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor, the film promises to bring new twists to the long-running supernatural horror series.

Originally slated for a different release date, the film will now take the slot previously held by Flowervale Street, which has been postponed to March 2026, according to Variety. The May release window has proven successful for genre films like A Quiet Place and The Hangover, making it a strategic choice for the franchise’s return.

The new film delves deeper into the mythos of the series, which began in 2000 and follows survivors who cheat death after a foreboding premonition. Veteran actor Tony Todd will reprise his role as the enigmatic mortician William Bludworth, marking his fourth appearance in the series. A flashback will explore his character’s childhood, shedding light on his mysterious connection to Death.

Producer Craig Perry hinted at a fresh angle for the film, suggesting it will unfold in the world of first responders. “These people make life-and-death decisions every day, and putting them in a nightmare scenario offers a unique perspective and thrilling set pieces,” Perry shared in an interview with Digital Spy.

The cast includes Stargirl’s Brec Bassinger, Chucky’s Teo Briones, Dear Evan Hansen’s Kaitlyn Santa Juana, The 100’s Richard Harmon, Gotham Knights’ Anna Lore, and Star Wars actors Max Lloyd-Jones and Rya Kihlstedt.
