The inauguration ceremony for the newly elected officers and members of the first Filipino Librarians Association-UAE took place last Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Philippine Embassy, officiated by His Excellency Alfonso Ferdinand A. Ver, Ambassador of the Philippines to the UAE.
The group, which originated as a small network of Filipino librarians and library staff in various schools across the UAE seven years ago, has now been formally registered under the Bayanihan Council Abu Dhabi, led by chairman Alfonso Halibas III, with guidance from NOPTI-FITS Abu Dhabi president, Romeo Atole.
Ambassador Ver delivered an inspiring message to the members, urging them to continue inspiring both themselves and others, emphasizing the importance of their role in shaping the minds of young children, regardless of nationality.
The Filipino librarian community in the UAE has seen significant growth in recent years, with their dedication and contributions to the profession earning recognition at the Emirates Festival of Literature for three consecutive years since 2021. Notable achievements include Mr. Jericho Diano and Ms. Elisa Yolangco receiving third place at the School Librarian of the Year Awards, and Mr. Marlon Dela Torre Almonte being honored with the Best in Innovation award for his work at Al Noor Rehabilitation and Welfare.
