The UAE Cabinet, chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, approved a new federal law on traffic. This legislation introduces amendments to vehicle classifications and incorporates modern technologies to align with global transport developments.
The law aims to expand the use of self-driving vehicles and electric cars, covering various types of personal transportation and enhancing overall reliance on advanced transportation methods. It also addresses driving license exemptions, license suspensions, vehicle insurance, and inspection regulations.
The UAE Cabinet also introduced new legislation to combat communicable diseases, establishing a framework for prevention, monitoring, and response based on the nature and severity of diseases. This builds on the UAE’s effective measures during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In tourism, the Cabinet approved adherence to the International Code for the Protection of Tourists, ensuring better services and safety for international visitors. Additionally, the Emirati Genome Programme received a federal decree law, regulating the use of human genome data to map genetic and hereditary diseases, with plans to expand sample collection to one million.
To combat financial crimes, a Unified List was introduced with 41 penalties for money laundering and terrorism financing. The UAE also joined the BRICS economic bloc, with the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank representing the country in financial discussions.
Further, the Cabinet approved the formation of a working group to develop the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, aiming to build global partnerships and support local businesses in international markets. Ethical guidelines for AI use and digital transformation initiatives, including a paperless government, were also endorsed.
The UAE signed agreements with Oman for a railway project and Kazakhstan for a wind power plant, alongside legal cooperation agreements with Kenya, Mauritius, Costa Rica, and Congo Brazzaville.
