New Dubai bridge cuts travel time from 15 minutes to just 3 minutes

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a new two-lane bridge on Hessa Street, slashing travel time to Al Khail Street from 15 minutes to a mere 3 minutes. The 1,000-meter bridge is a key component of the Dh689-million Hessa Street development project, which aims to enhance traffic flow and connectivity across major intersections.

Currently, 54% of the project has been completed. Once fully operational, it will connect Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road. The project spans 4.5 km, linking Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road, and is expected to double Hessa Street’s vehicle capacity to 16,000 per hour by 2030, catering to over 640,000 residents in areas such as Al Sufouh 2, Al Barsha, and Jumeirah Village Circle.

In addition to improved traffic flow, the project features 13.5 km of cycling and e-scooter tracks with two dedicated bridges for pedestrians and cyclists. These tracks will connect Al Sufouh and Dubai Hills, promoting first and last-mile connectivity to Dubai Internet City Metro Station and surrounding service hubs.

The upgrades are set to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2025, further solidifying Dubai’s infrastructure and urban mobility efforts.
