The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has announced an increase in financial assistance for distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families through the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund.
Under the newly issued Department Order No. 05, series of 2024, the DMW has standardized the amount of financial aid available to OFWs facing various challenges. The standard assistance is set at PHP30,000, with higher amounts allocated for those in more severe situations.
OFWs who are severely impacted by economic downturns, company bankruptcies, involuntary separation from employment, or who are victims of abuse, exploitation, or illegal recruitment, can now receive up to PHP50,000. Those suffering from severe illnesses, injuries, or mental health conditions due to abuse or displacement caused by war or political unrest are eligible for PHP75,000.
In cases where an OFW has passed away due to natural or accidental causes, their next of kin may receive financial assistance of up to PHP100,000.
“The DMW Aksyon Fund provides immediate assistance to OFWs or their families in distressful situations, ensuring that help reaches those who need it most,” the DMW stated in a social media post.
The financial assistance is a one-time cash grant, available either onsite through the Migrant Workers Office (MWO), at the airport upon the OFW’s arrival in the Philippines, or via bank transfer and other cost-effective methods. The request for assistance must be submitted within one year of the OFW’s return to the country.
