New Dh66 taxi-sharing service launched for Dubai-Abu Dhabi commuters

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a taxi-sharing pilot service between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, offering passengers the chance to save up to 75% on travel expenses. Launched on Monday, the six-month initiative allows passengers to share rides between Ibn Battuta Centre in Dubai and Al Wahda Centre in Abu Dhabi.

The service, designed to provide a convenient and cost-effective option, could be expanded to other locations depending on its success, according to the RTA. Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, noted that the initiative is especially beneficial for frequent commuters, with the fare reduced to Dh66 per person for a full car of four passengers.

When fewer passengers share the ride, the cost adjusts accordingly, with two passengers paying Dh132 each and three paying Dh88 each. Commuters can settle the fare via bank cards or Nol cards.

RTA highlighted the environmental benefits of the service, emphasizing its potential to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions while offering a legal alternative to unlicensed transport services.
