Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially opened two new cycling tracks in the Khawaneej and Mushrif areas, adding 7 km of pathways that link with the existing network. The new additions coincide with the start of Ramadan and extend the total cycling tracks in these residential communities to 39 km.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the RTA, highlighted the project’s alignment with directives from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, aimed at making Dubai a bicycle-friendly city. This initiative is part of the Dubai Urban Plan 2040, which seeks to make Dubai the best city for living in the world.
The first new track starts at the Qur’anic Park and runs through Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, connecting with the existing track via a bridge on Al Khawaneej Street. The second track begins at Mushrif Park, near Crocodile Park, and also links up with the Khawaneej track through a similar bridge.
This expansion is part of RTA’s broader vision to extend the total cycling track network from the current 544 km to 1,000 km by 2030, connecting key districts and coastal areas across Dubai. Cyclists are reminded to adhere to the designated speed limits on the tracks, which vary depending on the type of track and its location.
